Electric vs gas dryers: which hookup do you have?

You need a dryer that matches the hookup in your laundry area. Here is how to tell in under a minute.

Look behind your dryer

A large outlet with 3 or 4 holes (bigger than a normal outlet)Electric (240V)
A pipe with a yellow or red valve handle, plus a normal outletGas

Cost to install

  • Electric: included. We install a new 3- or 4-prong cord to match your outlet.
  • Gas: $60 to connect to your existing gas line. The shutoff valve must work and be within reach. We do not install new gas lines.

Which is better?

Both dry clothes well. Gas dryers often dry a little faster and can cost less to run, while electric dryers are the most common and simplest to hook up. The best choice is the one that matches the hookup you already have.
